If you need to erase all contents of a partition but not its hosting whole-disk, use the zeroDisk or randomDisk verbs.
Ownership of the affected disk is required. Another option is to use an old version of Disk Utility in modern versions of Mac OS X, either from a boot drive or recovery mode, of an older Mac OS release, or with the application itself, but that is generally not recommended.
For SSD volumes, a better option is to enable and use FileVault disk encryption on the Mac, which encrypts data on the drive making it unrecoverable without the FileVault key, thus obviating the need to securely erase free space on the volume.

We do this at work too for machines that are going to leave the office, since corporate and customer data is on the drives. I use Filevault and do not zero out the free space, as I do the full erase instead, but I can see how this would benefit some Macs out there.
So, when you reset an SSD, stick to formatting it. I seem to be finding conflicting answers when I search. Win 7, 8 and 10 all support TRIM, which makes secure overwrite deletion of files unnecessary and redundant for most users.
Using secure overwriting of files and empty space on a TRIM enabled SSD is a waste of time, power and write cycles, even if your device is warranted for 's of GB per day for 3 or 5 years. I've used CCleaner to automate disposal of old temp files and browser caches for years on my SSDs with no ill effect.
That's where it's really most helpful, pointing out files you had no idea were there taking up space. CCleaner's secure overwriting won't even work correctly on SSDs because of the way their firmware and wear leveling works.
The SSD firmware will actually write to a different free location when you overwrite a file, and does not immediately erase or overwrite that original file until TRIM or firmware housekeeping kicks in at some later time - and even then, tests have shown that some model SSD's firmware does not actually wipe the file internally.
SSDs operate differently from magnetic hard drives in ways that make "sanitizing" the raw data difficult. That creates other problems: For most people who want to use CCleaner as an everyday maintenance tool as opposed to someone using it prep their system for disposal, CCleaner's Secure file deletion and Wipe Free Space features are mostly unnecessary.
IMHO, the only instances of where these features may be of use is if, after running CC, your computer is physically stolen, or seized by government law agencies, or a jealous spouse with computer forensic skills is going to spy on you.
I don't really see a good reason to turn these 2 features on, myself - regardless of whether you're running an SSD or regular rotating platter HDD. There's lots of abstraction going on because sectors and data segments are not guaranteed to be contiguous as they can be on HDDs, and unless a file deletion tool can bypass the firmware of the SSD it's not going to wipe a file any more effectively than a TRIM command from the OS freeing up the now unused space of a deleted file.
Running the ocassional Defrag isnt gonna do any measurable harm. Modern SSDs don't work the same way that we are used to with traditional hard drives. Yes, your SSD's file system sometimes needs a kind of defragmentation and that's handled by Windows, monthly by default, when appropriate.
The intent is to maximize performance and a long life.
